I literally wasted 2hrs linking Play 5 stereo pair to Google assistant - it took endless renamings, unlinkings, etc. Sonos play 5/ Google Assistant integration is basically rubbish, an alpha product mvp. All it can do is to play something on the Sonos, after adding a long, convoluted “play xx on Family Room”. So I thought okay I can move a Sonos One from another room to the living room to act as GA hub there - no sir, it is a full 5.1 setup so it is not allowed. That's a highly desired feature that has not been implemented yet.

Unfortunately, they are competing multiroom systems, and this likely won’t change anytime soon. Now that everything is set up, you can control the speakers with your typical Google commands. These commands include saying, “Hey Google, play music,” “... ” With this Google integration, you’re also able to use other commands to control your smart home, get answers to questions, or manage your schedule. Even though Google and Sonos went through litigation battles in the past, you’re still able to connect your speakers to Google’s smart display. While Sonos has Assistant, hotword/voice recognition is widely panned compared to first-party Google devices.
