Even the most well-loved bike can look worn down if the plastic is dirty or scratched. Devote an afternoon to cleaning the plastic and sanding down the scratches. As you sand, you'll remove a very fine layer of the plastic to reveal a new-looking layer underneath. To restore the plastic's shine, buff the surface until it gleams.

Washing the Bike Plastic
Apply the wax to your frame using smooth circular motions. Rub the wax directly into the bike frame using smooth circular motions. Apply a medium amount of pressure and spread the wax out until there isn’t any wax visible in the location you are working. Cover each section at least 2-3 times to ensure that the wax works into the finish. Wipe the bike dry with a clean cloth or let it air dry outside.
Do not apply any oil on the tread portion of a tire. Here are few tips you can follow to prepare the shine and cleaner for the tires. Dry them off after washing then a lite coat of pledge. It only lasts for 1 ride, but its pretty cheap to do over. The polishing compound gives the plastic a little extra shine and can provide a layer of protection. Attach a 4 in buffing wheel to a power drill.
How to Make Homemade Tire Shine?
Grab an unscented baby wipe or moist towelette. Gently brush the entire frame of your bake to work the cleaner into the frame while wiping away the excess fluid. Wipe larger sections using circular strokes and use simple back-and-forth wipes to work the cleaner into thinner sections. Wait 1-2 hours before reassembling your bike or riding it. The carnauba wax needs time to harden and cure on the frame.
This makes the bike easier to polish, but you can definitely get your bike frame looking great without disassembling it. Reattach the wheels and spin the cranks to make sure the drivetrain runs smoothly. Wipe everything down with a dry, clean cloth or let it air-dry in the sun. You can insert a chain keeper—a guide for your chain when the cassette is removed—to keep tension on the drivetrain. Keeping an adequate load weight, and not exceeding the tire’s maximum capacity is a core way to maintain tire integrity, as is ordering the appropriate tire size.
A Few Other “Unique” Homemade Tire Shine Options
To dry your bike quickly, get a clean towel or cloth and manually wipe the bike clean. Alternatively, if it’s warm out, you can sit the bike out in the sun for 4-5 hours and let it dry on its own. Some store brought tire shine has a mild chemical which can damage the tire surface. Also, if you keep applying them, the tire could be a break. There are also some commonly used tire shine products around you which work better. Although the result may not be the same as homemade tire shine or store brought tire shine ingredients, those are also beneficial for tires and tire rims.
Press the buffing wheel over the surface of the plastic until it's shiny. Work the buffing wheel over each part of your bike's plastic. Stop every once in a while and look for dull areas of plastic that you might have missed. Turn the drill on and hold the wheel at an angle against the plastic.
When you spray the bike off the dirt and grime just melts away. I just use some car metal polish on the frame and some plastic polish on the plastics and seat. It makes the scratched plastics of my YZ look brand new. You can get all of it from your local bike shop.
Seal the area around the exiting tube at the bottom. Seal it well and let it dry completely before you use it. Test it before you go full throttle, as well. One to fit the copper tubing, and one for the thermometer.
Mix together dish soap and water to make a cleaning solution. Get out a clean bucket and squeeze about 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap into it. Then, fill the bucket with cold or lukewarm water and swish it around with your hand to dissolve the soap.
You can also apply a polishing compound to protect the plastic for a few months. A simple solution of vinegar and water will not only clean aluminum surfaces but also polish the aluminum to restore its original shine. In a spray bottle, mix equal parts of water and white vinegar. Spray directly onto the surface and wipe away with a soft cloth. You can skip this step if you don’t have a specialized cleaner, but the cleaning solution basically primes your bike for the polish. Your bike will shine much better with a matte finish cleaner.
